Terminal 4 Reconstruction is located on the south apron of terminal 4 at Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix Arizona. Sky Harbor is the 6th largest airport in the country. Southwest Airline currently operates out of these gates. The job is divided into 7 master phase’s and 4 sub phase’s (total 28 phases) and involves removing 94,000 square yards of concrete, placement of 18,000 ton of P-209 aggregate base course, placement of 50,000 cubic yards of Portland Cement Concrete Pavement, and installing 1,580 feet of ACO trench drain. We are also removing jet fuel impacted soil and have replaced 4 fuel pits to date that are used to fuel aircraft. We are currently 2 months ahead of schedule and we have completed 5 of 7 master phase’s and the team continues to improve as we go. Some of the challenges we have faced have been contaminated soil, emergency fuel shut off system located in the existing concrete, unstable sub grade, existing unforeseen foundations, protection of fuel pits, and restricted hours of operations due to flight schedules. This project is a mandatory double shift project, which has been managed well by our staff.
