Having built our reputation in the heavy civil sector working highway, road, and bridge projects, we quickly shifted our Transportation Solutions business, from a low-bid (and low margin) heavy highway work, into a business with higher-margin offerings, including alternative delivery, aviation, and rail.
Our transformation began in 2016 when our company went from being a heavy civil construction business to a diversified infrastructure service provider. Our core capabilities began serving end markets with long-term sustainable growth drivers, including the data center build-out, onshoring of manufacturing, and major U.S. infrastructure investment.
Today, we’re even laying the groundwork for advancing human exploration by designing and building the infrastructure for the world’s first urban commercial spaceport.

Through initiatives like Accelerated Bridge Construction, we’re able to reduce public travel delays by building offsite and moving key components into place overnight. We consult with local communities and employ lighting that provides safe access while preventing excessive light pollution. We even landscape completed work areas with native, drought-resistant plants and provide artwork for bridges to complement the community and its surroundings.

Airport
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Through significant planning and astute scheduling and project management involving multiple stakeholder entities, reconstruction of the north apron of Sky Harbor International Airport was completed with minimal impact on airport traffic and operations.
Highway
Location: Salt Lake City, Utah
The widening of this 13-mile stretch of highway in Utah included reconfiguring 24 bridges. Traffic delays were mitigated by relegating lane closures to overnights.
Spaceport
Location: Houston, Texas
Beginning with diligent design-phase work, this joint venture (JV) project between Sterling subsidiaries Texas Sterling and Banicki Construction provided vital roadway and civil services infrastructure for the nation’s first urban commercial spaceport.
Bridge
Location: Glenwood Springs, Colorado
Replacement of road and adjacent pedestrian bridges spanning the Roaring Fork River entailed constructing the new bridge next to the old one and moving it into place upon completion with minimal disruption to traffic.
